This monitoring visit was organized by Sr. Gelsomina Rodas, Daniel de Caritas and Olma professor, with the purpose of understanding the harsh reality experienced by people who are migrating. Sr. Marcela, Ana Victoria and Sr. Nyzelle visited the Nicaraguan border with Honduras with a team from Red Clamor Honduras.
During the visit, we listen to the testimony of two families, both are Delegates of the Word and very committed to the Gospel incarnate, in welcoming the migrants who are passing through. There they give them rest, water, food, and what little else they had they share.
As we listened, a Haitian family arrived (2 adults, 2 children and a teenager) who had been assaulted by coyotes who took everything from them. All of this left them psychologically affected, and they received psychological first aid and then transportation was provided to Hogar Esperanza in Choluteca.
Needs pointed out by the families and by the members of Red Clamor Honduras
Members of Red Clamor Honduras should:
- Identify themselves with a distinctive (vest, identification card) as defenders of migrants when making visits in these types of situations;
- Strengthen their coordination as a living force in the community and install capacities on the subject of human rights;
- Establish alliances with organizations and other pastoral workers in the Catholic Church;
- Carry a basic first aid kit and medications;
- Promote solidarity campaigns to support migrants with clothes, food, water, hygiene and biosafety kits.
