The sisters and brothers who make up the Franciscan Network on Migration rejoice for the proximity of Christmas – Feast of the feast. as Saint Francis of Assisi called it- and we renew our commitment to God who becomes a Child and walks alongside his people. To celebrate and remember this great event, we have prepared a special program that will be broadcast online “EN CAMINO…”
Pope Francis, in his message for World Day of Migrants and Refugees 2020 reminds us that “on the flight to Egypt, the child Jesus experienced, together with his parents, the tragic condition of displaced person and refugee,“ marked by fear, uncertainty, discomfort (cf. Mt 2,13-15.19-23). Unfortunately, in our day, millions of families can recognize themselves in this sad reality. For those families and with those families we want to celebrate Christmas.
From the Franciscan Network for Migrants, we invite you to participate in the celebration, “Christmas at La 72” and the launch of the 2021 volunteer campaign. We are also taking part as an organization that will receive volunteers during the next year .
La 72 Migrant and Refugee Shelter operates on the border between Mexico and Guatemala, about 18,000 people pass through here annually. We will share with them in their preparations for the Christmas celebration. In addition, some sisters and brothers who have performed volunteer service in previous years will be present to tell us a little about their experience and encourage others to do the same.
