Salto De Agua, Mexico
Parish-based Shelter, Operated by Franciscan Sisters

The Salto de Agua migrant house in normal times can accommodate up to 200 people but very tight. The base team report that there are not now many migrants passing through their region. The house is still open during the pandemic, although the town has a COVID-19 case detected.

Normally people come through for 2-3 days only. Right now the people who arrive are deported from the US. Due to the total shut down of Guatemala’s borders, there are people who are going to head north, to try again to cross to the US. Due to the curfew, the municipality has threatened that any migrant who walks the streets will pick them up and put them in jail.
