{"id":9289,"date":"2022-12-12T02:20:59","date_gmt":"2022-12-12T02:20:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/redfranciscana.org\/?p=9289"},"modified":"2022-12-31T02:23:49","modified_gmt":"2022-12-31T02:23:49","slug":"franciscan-experiences-and-fraternity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/redfranciscana.org\/en\/franciscan-experiences-and-fraternity\/","title":{"rendered":"<strong>Franciscan Experiences and Fraternity<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.19.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.19.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;0px|||||&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.19.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.19.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; min_height=&#8221;72px&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;0px||0px|||&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ef5521;\"><strong>Back in 1977, I attended the first annual Franciscan Brotherhood Experience vocation weekend at Mayslake Retreat House in suburban Chicago.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.19.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was a glorious experience of being with 30 friars, from different ministries and lifestyles.\u00a0 Although it was 45 years ago, I still remember well the anticipation to be part of Franciscan community and life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since 2005, I&#8217;ve been assigned to live along the Arizona\/Mexico border.\u00a0 Back in 2005 I helped organize a &#8220;Franciscans Along the Border&#8221; meeting in Topawa, on the Tohono O&#8217;odahm reservation, 15 miles from the Mexican border.\u00a0 Then in 2008, two other friars and I organized another Franciscans Along the Border gathering, this time in Socoro\/El Paso.\u00a0 At those meetings I met Ruben Garcia and others from Tucson, Phoenix and El Paso.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=&#8221;https:\/\/redfranciscana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/2DA-FOTO-ARTiCULOS-2022-7.png&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.19.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; title_text=&#8221;2DA FOTO ART\u00edCULOS 2022 (7)&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.19.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But this gathering in 2022 was a Franciscan Border Experience extraordinaire.\u00a0 In addition to seeing Ruben Garcia again (challenging us to organize a bus of 50 migrants to settle into the interior of the country), we also met Marisa Limon Garcia of Las Americas.\u00a0 Marisa explained to us the Franciscan roots of Las Americas.\u00a0 Since its founding in 1987, they have offered legal help to 40,000 migrants from 70 countries.\u00a0 Dylan Corbett, the founder and director of Hope Border Institute gave us a concise summary of the history of the southwest, and the great need to respect all the people and cultures, those settled and those on the move.\u00a0 He said his boss is Pope Francis!\u00a0 Finally, Tom Smith, OFMConv.
